The penultimate week!
We welcomed a few new faces to the run this week, which put the maximum points out of reach for some of the regulars in the run. But the games for 5th were played, and they were played well. Ryan Lozoskie and Tim Murray are now tied in the standings with 329 points each. The tie breaker is the place of the runner in the race, and with Murray placing ahead of Lozoskie, Murray is placed in 4th with Lozoskie in 5th. but, Zach Elinich is in 3rd just two points ahead of these two, meaning he is very much in a place to swipe 5th from them and repeat as a back-to-back champ. BUT, will Nancy Oswald swipe them all? She’s 7 points ahead of Elinich and 9 points ahead of Murray-Lozoskie. With Week 12 scored as double points regardless of weather, will the points spread help or hinder the ambitions of our top runners for 5th place?

In the Women’s overall, 2024 champ Rhiannon Davis is back in 5th with one week to go! But, she is only one point ahead of Sue Connolly. Historically, Connolly has defeated Davis in every match-up on course. Davis needs to figure out how to not only defeat Connolly, but she needs to have one person between them, as well. But, there is another story in the women’s standings: Kristen Roosa-Beck is two points ahead of Davis and three points ahead of Connolly. If Kristen Roosa-Beck finishes behind Connolly by two places or more, she could swipe into 5th herself, threading the needle between Connolly and Davis. Allison Schwartz becomes the keystone of success for any of these scenarios. Schwartz has placed near Roosa-Beck and Connolly all season, and could, in theory, control where she finishes relative to Roosa-Beck and Connolly. Davis can only hope for one of two scenarios: Schwartz, Connolly, and Roosa-Beck negatively race themselves into proximity to Davis, allowing her to sprint ahead, or the outlier: Lisa Denardo does not show, dropping out of the top 5 in the final week, and thereby potentially giving Davis 5th after all.
